  The Biafran War : Agitations, Causes, and   Results(1967-1970) This year was 1967, it was a brutal  war in Nigeria, which killed an estimation of 1.3 million people, mostly from the Igbo tribe. A highly ranked military officer called Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu led the Biafran republic. Ojukwu wanted an independent Igbo republic due to the violence that happened in the North as regard the Igbo tribe. Ojukwu sat for reconciliation and mediation, which failed woefully due to the fact that Nigeria government opposed secession. Due to this failure a bitter and horrific war broke out from 1967-1970 .
